Transporting a pallet safely and securely often requires the use of single-use packaging materials, such as stretch film. With the PPWR, this will have to change. Is this already possible? As part of the VIL project STRAP – LeSs TRAnsport Packaging, VIL is investigating which reusable solutions are available on the market and whether they can deliver on their promises. The key question is whether these alternatives stabilise and protect pallet loads just as well as, or better than, stretch film.
Tested in the lab first
Before moving to the shop floor, the reusable pallet wraps were first subjected to laboratory tests at IBE-BVI. This allowed the various solutions to be tested under controlled conditions for their ability to stabilise pallet loads.
Following the successful laboratory tests, Proof of Concept tests were carried out at project participants Colruyt, Giardino and Scania. There, the reusable pallet wraps were deployed in a real-world logistics environment. These tests were also successful.
Every logistics operation is different. What works well for one type of pallet, product or goods flow does not necessarily yield the same results in a different application. That is why VIL wants to offer its members the opportunity to discover for themselves what reusable pallet wraps can do for their logistics processes.
Try it out for yourself with a free VIL test kit
VIL provides its members with a free test kit containing three different types of reusable pallet wraps. This allows you to try out the solutions for yourself on the shop floor and see how they work within your specific application and goods flows.
Curious to find out whether reusable pallet wraps could also be a viable alternative for your organisation? Request the free VIL test kit from Gunther Storme via Gunther.Storme@vil.be and discover the possibilities the three types of reusable pallet wraps offer for your logistics operations.
